Help provide love, support & organization to a diverse culture at Gateways food pantry by helping at least one hour each week. Assistance may include helping to fill out forms, locating available resources, filling grocery bags, or simply listening and offering prayer. You’ll meet people who, for them, this is their way of life to those who are temporarily struggling through a crisis. These are people who are just like us in their need for love, community and support. Food drive coordinators also welcome. To volunteer or for more info, email [email protected].
Hours of operation:
Wednesdays 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Stocking, sorting & set up Tuesday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00 PM
Being a parent is a demanding job and it’s even more challenging when you are a single parent. Help us honor and celebrate Gateway’s single moms by hosting a monthly dinner the 2nd Wednesday evening of each month. You can assist the Single Moms Ministry by volunteering to help create and serve a fun and relaxing dinner and share in community together with these wonderful women. For the past several months a Small Group at Gateway has supported the Single Moms Ministry in hosting these dinners, and they have been very successful! If your small group or a group of your friends are interested in volunteering or for more info, email [email protected].
Over 12 million refugees flee from their countries each year due to civil wars, genocide, and persecution of faith just to name a few. Texas is the second largest state (next to California) to receive refugees. In fact, over 5,000 refugees relocate to Texas to start new lives each year. Many are forced to leave members of their family behind, not knowing the status of their well being. These are wonderful and loving people who need relational and supportive communities to come around them and help. There are many ways to do this, by being hands on and interacting directly with individuals or families, providing some basic needs (e.g., warm clothing, blankets, house hold items, furniture, baby item, etc.) or by helping to organize and deliver these items to families. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage with an entirely different culture, be educated yourselves and blessed by their beautiful hearts. To volunteer or for more info, email [email protected]
Over 80% of international students never set foot in an American home, and loneliness is often a struggle for these international students. Make a difference in their lives and yours by hosting an international student and helping them experience fun things about our American culture. We also recommend small groups hosting a group of students. You can have them over for a backyard bbq, take them to a football game, or show them some of our holiday traditions. Most all of the students speak English well, and this is a great opportunity to engage with other cultures and learn about their experience here as international students, what their lives are like where they are from, and what you can share with them. This breakfast program provides a hot meal to more than 600 downtown homeless individuals each week, and continues to grow. In addition, participants can also get a haircut, find clothing, and perhaps find a job or get a bus pass. Gateway teams will be helping every 3rd Tuesday of the month with the breakfasts. Volunteers might cook, serve food, clean up, talk to homeless people, hand out bus passes, etc. The breakfasts are held at the First United Methodist Church at 1201 Lavaca Street from 5:15 to 7:00am typically on Tuesday or Thursday mornings. Beat the traffic into Austin in the morning! To volunteer or for more info, email [email protected]
This is a program dedicated to homeless and persons in need in Austin, TX and surrounding areas. Our mission is to show God’s love to those in need by providing healthy snacks, toiletries, bible, and contact information to local service ministries in the area. This is done through the distribution of packaged bags from volunteer to person. If you would like to help, please check out our website at www.spiritfed.org.

This program utilizes church facilities throughout Austin to provide housing for homeless families. One week each month, families reside in a church facility. While the parents work, the children go to school, with the goal being that the entire family works themselves out of homelessness into a permanent housing situation. Gateway is partnering with two other churches (one north / one south) to assist these families. You can volunteer to bring a meal to the families (breakfast or dinner), spend the night at the other church facilities as a host, or assist with set up / clean up. Exact times do vary, depending on when our partner churches house the families. For more info, email [email protected].
We are one church with one mission, led by one staff team, that meets in several different places at slightly different times. We share similar Sunday service experiences with the same teaching message via video, but the music and programming are live in each location.
