Velocity Small Groups

Rate of Motion
We start 95% of New Small Groups at Gateway as Velocity Groups.  Velocity Groups are 6-week Small Groups designed to create a new rate of relational and spiritual speed in people’s lives. We hope this group experience will be a stimulus for movement from people’s current velocity to a new speed.

As a Velocity Group you will grow relationally with one another while investigating taking steps toward God.  During the group you will plan a social event to create closer relational connections. You will also plan a service project to serve a need in our city.

After your Velocity Group completes the initial 6-weeks together the group has a choice.  You may end the group, with specific next steps for each individual, or you may continue the group focusing on a variety of felt needs that will help the whole group take next steps in exploring and following Jesus.

Expectations for the Group
When your group meets together you should expect these kinds of practical guidelines to keep the group moving forward.

• A facilitator for the group
• A touch of simple hospitality
• A time schedule to keep
• Group materials to guide your time
• Sharing responsibilities of the group
• Serving the needs of people in the group and in your world
• Multiplying this group to include others

 

What to Bring
Yourself: commit to coming every week for 6-weeks
A Modern Translation of the Bible: NIV, ESV, Message, or others. If you don’t have a Bible we will have a couple extras at the meeting for you.  The first few weeks we will have the passages printed in the materials for you. If you ask the church they will probably give you a Bible for free.

•    A SERVICE PROJECT

 

Is this a Discover, Develop or Deepen Group?
It is none of the above. Discover, Develop and Deepen are words that describe a person’s personal spiritual season. A Velocity Group is about relationally investigating where each person in the group has come from and where they are going. During the group individuals will have a chance to identify what spiritual season resonates with them most. After the 6-weeks of Velocity everyone will be given a chance to agree on the group’s next steps and what season best describes the whole group.
