ABOUT

WHAT ARE GO! TEAMS?

At Gateway, we desire to equip and encourage the Next Generation to actively “Change their World” as they follow the Way of Christ. In Matthew 28 we see that Jesus tells us to “GO” and share the love, life and freedom found in Him to those we encounter!

One of the ways we practically do this is by offering summer GO! Teams.

GO! Teams are typically a week long experience where kids and students display the love and attitude of Christ to people in the US and around the world by helping meet physical, spiritual and relational needs.

GO! Teams partner with established organizations, joining in the ongoing transformation taking place through Christ-followers and churches, resulting in life change both in those being served AND in those serving!

HOW DO WE GO?

  • We GO SENT… Sent by God and also by people. While you may choose to pay for your entire GO! Team out of pocket, you do have the opportunity to invite others into your serving experience through raising support. Raising support means inviting others to participate with you by sending you through financial and prayer support. You will be participating on your team as a “go-er”; others will have the opportunity to participate as a “sender”. **Once you have been accepted onto a GO! Team you will receive specific step-by-step instructions on how to raise financial support, including a sample letter.

  • We GO INVESTED… Everyone who participates on a GO! Team is asked to personally invest to their experience through a small financial commitment. This is called your DEPOSIT and is due at the first training. **Deposits are non-refundable, vary per GO! Team, and counts towards your total cost.

  • We GO PREPARED… Every team that Gateway sends, regardless of age, has mandatory trainings for team members. In the same way that an athlete trains to prepare for a competition or event, we train in order to be prepared when we GO. Trainings not only help us to be the most effective at our tasks, but it will also help us to personally grow as we apply the things learn to our everyday lives.**GO! Team trainings are mandatory and will happen on the following dates:
    • North Teams |  March 3, March 31, & May 5 from 3-5pm
    • South Teams | March 3, March 31 & May 5 from 12:30-2:30pm
    • Sending Sunday on May 19 at all campuses

  • We GO RELEASED… Every GO! Team participant must have the approval of their parent/guardian to participate. Release & Medical Forms from Gateway Church will be required for all participants- these can be found online here. **In addition many of our ministry partners will require specific release forms- these will be distributed at the first training meeting and will be available on your FocusMission Account

TO APPLY… Applications for kids/students & adult leaders are available below.

The application deadline is Sunday, Feb 17 and applicants will be notified of acceptance VIA EMAIL no later than February 27.**Please note that late applications will not be processed.

FAQ

FAQ’s

WHEN IS MY APPLICATION DUE?

Applications are due no later than Sunday, February 17. After this time applications will close. **Please note that “applying” is not the same as “registering”. Space on GO! Teams is limited – not everyone who applies may be accepted onto a team.

ARE KIDS/STUDENTS PLACES ACCORDING TO THE GRADE THEY ARE COMPLETING OR THE GRADE THEY ARE GOING INTO FOR THEIR GO! TEAM?

All kids/students are placed based upon the CURRENT grade that they are in. For example, if a child is currently in 5th grade, they would be eligible to participate on the Kids Team. If a student is in 8th grade, then they would be eligible for a Middle School Team, etc.

HOW DO I FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH I PAY AND HOW MUCH I RAISE?

Your deposit is the amount that you personally pay on/before the first training. We then ask that you raise the remaining cost by building a support team. For example, if you are going to Dallas you would pay $150 and then you would raise $525, equalling your total cost of $675.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE EXTRA FUNDS IF MY KID/STUDENT RAISES MORE MONEY THAT WHAT THEY NEED TO COVER GO! TEAM COSTS?

Any overage of funds from one individual is used to help another team participant who may come up financially short of their total cost when raising support.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY KID/STUDENT DOESN’T RAISE THEIR TOTAL GO! TEAM COST?

In many instances, overage from other team members is able to applied to help a kid/student reach their total goal. However, this is not always the case. Per the signed Team Agreement, you and your family commit to cover the entirety of the GO! Team cost prior to your kid/students departure on their team. If you have specific questions about your kid/students support status don’t hesitate to email goteams@gatewaychurch.com.

WHAT IF I WANT TO GO AS AN ADULT LEADER?

Great! You are held to the same standard and requirements of the kids/students, so make sure you apply by February 17.

WHAT IS THE RATIO OF ADULT LEADERS TO STUDENTS?

Our hope for every team is to have one adult for every student. Kids participating on the Family Team will have a parent/guardian traveling with them.

DOES A KID/STUDENT HAVE TO REGULARLY ATTEND GATEWAY IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE ON A TEAM?

If a kid/student currently attends a local church that offers similar serving teams we highly encourage them to participate on a team with their own church. If a child/student is not already part of a local church that offers serving teams they are welcome to apply for a Gateway GO! Team.

DOES A KID/STUDENT HAVE TO BE A CHRIST-FOLLOWER TO PARTICIPATE?

While the kid/student’s current spiritual temperature may dictate the team that they are placed on, it does not disqualify them from being able to apply. There are no spiritual requirements to apply for a GO! Team.

HOW WILL I KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY MY KID/STUDENT HAS RAISED THROUGHOUT THE GO! TEAMS PROCESS?

When a kid/student applies for a GO! Team they automatically create an account with our online management system, FocusMissions. Once accepted onto a team,  you will be able to log into your kid/students account at any point to view their financial status. You will also be able to see what forms may be outstanding, view upcoming training dates or tasks, and also download any missing forms related to your kid/students specific GO! Team.

WHERE DO I ACCESS ANY NECESSARY FORMS THAT I MAY BE MISSING?

All forms will be handed out to your kid/student at their first training. They will then also be available for download directly from your kid/students FocusMission account!

ARE THERE DEPOSIT DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE FOR FAMILIES WITH MULTIPLE KIDS/STUDENTS PARTICIPATING?

We never want money to hinder someone from being part of a GO! Team. Please email goteams@gatewaychurch.com if you have more than one kid/student participating on a GO! Team and would like to work out a financial plan for reaching each of their total team costs.

WHAT IF MY KID/STUDENT HAS TO MISS A TRAINING?

We completely understand that life happens, and things come up! However, what we ask is that you prioritize for all trainings – if you already know that your kid/student can’t make a few of the trainings prior to applying, please have them reconsider applying.

**In the event that your kid/student does miss a training, please make sure to communicate this to the Team Leader – they will follow up with you on any pertinent information.
