HEALING
AUGUST 11
Somewhere in our faith journey we stopped believing in the impossible. We traded in the God who became flesh, born of a virgin, crucified, resurrected, and ascended into Heaven, for a Divine guide-from-the-side. Let us open our eyes once again, or for the first time, to the God who still parts seas, who still heals broken bodies, and who still transforms lives. The God of Miracles. Miraculous healing is still available.
Work through the following questions and scriptures on your own or get together with your group, spiritual running partners, or family to talk through what you are learning.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- Have you experienced or know someone who has experienced unexplainable healing?
- Read James 5:13-18 and Romans 8:9-11. Do you regularly ask for God to heal yourself or others? If you follow Jesus and have the Holy Spirit, do you consider how powerful your prayers are?
KEY SCRIPTURE
James 5:13-18 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.
Romans 8:9-11 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
PRAYER
Who in your group or life is suffering? Spend time laying hands on them and praying for healing.
PRACTICE
Challenge yourself. The next time you come across someone who is suffering, offer to pray for their healing then and there.
Join us for Pray First, where we devote 21 days to intentional prayer as a church family and commit to praying for the transforming power of Jesus in your life and others.
