Day 2: Emotional Mental Health

August 7, 2025 by jeffstapleton

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

1 Peter 5:7

Every day, students carry invisible burdens—anxiety about grades or friendships, feelings of loneliness, pressures to be perfect or even the battle of depression. Some face fear about their future, while others find navigating issues like ADHD, body image, or panic attacks extremely overwhelming. Many feel like they have to keep it all together on the outside while quietly falling apart on the inside.

But the truth of Scripture tells us something radically different: we are not alone, and we are not expected to carry these burdens by ourselves. God invites us to bring all of our worries, stress, and struggles to Him, because He cares for us deeply, personally, & constantly.

Jesus doesn’t shame us for our weaknesses. He meets us in them. He understands our mental and emotional struggles. In fact, Isaiah 53:3 says He was “a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.” He’s not distant from the darkness. He’s willing to walk into it with us, to sit in it with us, and to lead us out.

Let’s pray for our students to know this: that they don’t have to face their inner battles alone. That there is hope. That there is healing. That their identity is not in what they feel but in who God is and what He says about them.

Practice: Make this your own

Spend time praying specifically for the students that you know and for those in our church. You can specifically pray against what the world says and claim the words of God on their behalf. Let’s intercede boldly for the mental health of the next generation.

You’re broken beyond repair God heals the brokenhearted (Psalm 147:3)
You have to be strong on your own His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Cor. 12:9)
You’ll always struggle God gives us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11)
You can’t slow your thoughts He gives peace beyond understanding (Phil 4:7)
You are a failure You are more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37)
You are forgotten God is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18)
You’ll never measure up You are chosen and dearly loved (Col. 3:12)
You’ll always be anxious His perfect love drives out fear (1 John 4:18)
