"The LORD works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed."
Psalm 103:6
Over 2 billion children are alive right now. Unfortunately, they are among the most mistreated and overlooked people on earth, with their safety and wellbeing threatened from numerous directions. Even in our own country, danger and fear have prowled around school campuses, causing parents and communities to wonder, “What can be done?”
But our hope and trust is in God – the one who “works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.” A child is never alone and never defenseless in the universe God created, no matter what appearances may tell us. He invites us to pray – to ask that what is right and good would prevail in our society, especially in our schools.
Rather than anxiously waiting for another tragic news report, let’s take our stand with the God of Heaven and ask him to hold true to his word – to work on behalf of students, teachers, administrators, and school staff. He can protect them from evil and promote environments where students can thrive in peace and safety.
"Will not God give justice to his chosen ones, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily."
Luke 18:7-8
Practice: Make this your own
This week, whenever you lock a door (car, office, home, etc.), use it as a cue to pray for the safety and security of schools in our community. Let’s ask the God who works justice to watch over vulnerable students and to give school staff alertness and discernment. We can also ask him to foil the plans of evil before they ever materialize. Let’s boldly ask that God would eliminate darkness and fear from our schools and create safe spaces where students can learn and grow without the threat of danger over their heads.
Prayer Points
- God of justice, please defend children and schools in our city. Overturn evil and bring good to our communities.
- Father, we believe you give justice speedily. Please reign over our schools and guard them with peace and safety.
