A friend is always loyal,
and a brother is born to help in time of need.
Proverbs 17:17
This proverb mentions the type of friend we need in our lives. Someone who is loyal means someone who will be there for you on your good days and bad days. Someone who cares what you think and wants to know what you like and dislike. A friend who can pray with you and point you to Jesus. Essentially, someone who has high integrity as they follow Jesus. As this school year approaches, we need friends who will lift us up, help us out when we are having a hard day, and stay consistent in our lives. Are there new friends you need to make this year that will be loyal to you? Are there friends you should spend less time with who aren’t there when you need them? This school year, let’s ask God to bring us friends who are loyal and will help us when we are in a tough situation.

Practice: Make this your own
God has created us to be in relationships with one another. We are not meant to be alone in this world without a community of people. God has given us the blessings of friends and friendships. As we start this new school year, let’s ask God to bring new friends into our lives. Friends that are loyal and there for us. Friends that will lift us up and encourage us when things are not going great. Friends that listen to the concerns we have. Friends who are praying for us. God, help us also to be those types of loyal friends as well. Help us to keep our word and be dependable. Help us find ways to bless and love on our friends. Lastly, pray that God gives you the courage to make new friends this year and to be a blessing for someone else too.
