Climbing Trees

August 15

We all have a family of origin that affected how we grew up. Understanding what God intends for kids to grow up to discover helps us evaluate the experiences that shaped us. Even as we grow into adulthood, we can enjoy the joys of being children in God’s Kingdom.

Work through the following questions and scriptures on your own, and get together with your running partner,   life group, or friends and family to talk through what you are learning.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1.) What is one thing that you really enjoyed during your childhood (swinging, singing, playing pretend, etc)?

2.) What stood out to you from the message?

3.) Read Romans 5:8 and 1 John 4:18. The Character trait that is the first we develop and the one that all the others build on is Connectedness. Have you thought about how the way your parent(s) loved you and connected to you affects the way you view God’s love toward you? In what ways do you think your experience with connectedness as a child is affecting your connection with God?

4.) Read Galatians 6:7. What did “being responsible” look like in your home? Did you grow up overly responsible? Or did you grow up feeling like other’s emotions were your responsibility?

5.) Of the Character traits talked about (connectedness, responsibility, competence, morality, humility) which do you feel like you were taught well growing up? Are there any you think you are needing to redevelop?

6.) What is next for you? Was there something you heard that makes you curious about your own story, if so what? Was there something that resonated and points to a next step of growth or healing? Is there someone you need to talk with about these truths? Our desire is that the inspire service would inspire you toward a deeper connection with God and others each week. What does that look like for you this week?

KEY SCRIPTURE

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this While we were still sinners Christ died for us

1 John 4:18.There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
