I Can’t Sleep At Night

June 15, 2025

Discussion Questions:

1. Lean In

  • What is a favorite memory you have of your father?
  • What was something that resonated with you in the message and why?
  • What tends to keep you up at night—mentally, emotionally, or spiritually?

2. Look Up

Observations (What does the text say?)

  • Read Matthew 11:28–30. What specific words or phrases stand out to you?
  • Read Matthew 6:25–34. How many times does Jesus say “do not worry”? What examples of worry does He address?
  • What contrasts or promises do you see in these passages?

Interpretations (What does the passage mean?)

  • What does Jesus mean when He says, “Come to me… and I will give you rest”?
  • What does it mean to take His yoke upon you? How is His yoke “easy” and His burden “light”?
  • Why does Jesus connect worry with a lack of faith in Matthew 6?
  • What do these passages teach about God’s character and His care for us?

Applications (What’s my response?)

  • Where in your life are you feeling anxious, burdened, or restless right now?
  • What would it look like to come to Jesus with that burden this week?
  • How can seeking God’s Kingdom first reshape how you handle stress, worry, and daily needs?
  • What passages of Scripture do you want to memorize that could help you in this shift from an anxious mind to a mind at rest?
  • What practical steps can you take this week to rest in Jesus and trust God’s provision?

3. Step Out (Practice)

Who do you know in your life that could use more peace and how can you try to help them with that?

Is there anyone you need to apologize to that may have been affected by the last time you were in a triggered or anxious state? If so, how can you make amends with them?

How can you become a more non-anxious presence* in your home, at your work, among your friends, or in your neighborhood this week?

*Consider reading A Non-Anxious Presence by Mark Sayers.
